BGF Handicap System

Handicap Calculation

Introduction

  1.     JLGCC is a 9-hole golf course. At present all the tournament and practice games are played as 9-hole games. However, the handicap index for the golfers will be issued basing on 18-holes. The 9-hole game score will be doubled and used as 18-hole game score.
  2.     A new golfer will be allowed to play in the course by the Golf Captain after observing his performance in the driving range. Thereafter, he/she will play with different players and deposit minimum 8x 9-hole score cards for review by the Handicap Committee.
  3.     Then the Golfer will be invited to play with minimum 2 x members of the handicap Committee (to be decided by the Chairman, Handicap Committee) following which, he/she will be playing with the Golf Captain.
  4.     Depending on the performance of the golfer and the recommendation of the Handicap Committee and the Golf Captain, handicap index may be awarded to the new golfer. Initially a new golfer will be awarded 24 handicap index (36 for lady and junior Golfers). However, minimum standard laid down for awarding handicap will be a score of 60 for 9-hole game (70 for lady and junior golfers). In addition, the Golf Captain shall assess the knowledge and observance of golf rules and etiquettes by the golfer.

Review of Handicap after Tournament

    5.      Due to various commitments and distant location of JLGCC from other stations a golfer is unable to participate regularly in the monthly practices. Therefore, Handicap Index of all participants will be reviewed after every tournament the golfer(s) participate in JLGC. Handicap index will be fixed following the policy appended below:

a

Player whose handicap is from                                        50% of below par performance will be

19-24 (28-36 for lady and juniors)                                    deducted from his/her handicap

b

Player whose handicap is from                                        25% of below par performance will be

12-18 (18-27 for lady and juniors)                                    deducted from his/her handicap

c

Player whose handicap is from                                       15% of below par performance will be

0-11 (0-17 for lady and juniors)                                        deducted from his/her handicap

For JLGCC, until further notice, the handicap index will be reviewed after every tournament both for increase and decrease. However, this review will be applicable for members of JLGCC only.

Procedure of Calculating Handicap Index

    6.      Procedure for reviewing the handicap index will be followed as under:

             a.    Net Score Shall be determined as:

                    Net Score = 2 x Gross Score – Handicap.

             b.    If the Net Score is below/above 72, the difference between 72 and the Net Score shall be taken into consideration, say the figure is D.

             c.    Then the Revised Handicap Index will be as:

                    Present Handicap- {D x (0.5 or 0.25 or 0.15)} as applicable.

             d.    For example: if a golfer’s handicap index is 20 and his gross score is 44. (In a 9-hole game), then his Revised Handicap Index will be as:

                    Net Score                    = (44×2) – 20   = 88 -20 = 68

                    Difference i.e., D         = 72-68 = 4

                    Revised Handicap       = 20- (D x 0.5) = 20 – 2 = 18

                    For 9-hole course the handicap index will be = 18 ÷ 2 = 9

    7.      In case of odd number handicap index, the lower rounded up number will be the handicap index for 9-hole course (for example: a player with 17 handicap index will be awarded 8 handicap index for a 9-hole course).

    8.      During handicap index calculation if the increase/decrease comes in fraction, following rule will be followed:

             a.    Fraction of 0.50 and above will be considered as next round figure.

             b.    Fraction 0.49 and bellow will be considered as previous round figure.
