Jalalabad Golf and Country Club

Jalalabad Golf and Country Club of is located in the north western part of Jalalabad Cantonment. It is a 09 Hole Golf Course of Par 35 covering approximately 50 acres of land. This club was raised as Practice Golf Course Jalalabad on 28 January 2003. BA-1195 Major General (retired as Lieutenant General) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, awc, psc was the first Senior Vice President of this club. Under his guidance, BA-1785 (Late) Brigadier General Jahangir Hossan, psc and BA- 1274 Brigadier General (retired) Ferdous Hasan Khan, ndc, psc took a lead role in conceptualizing and initiating the project. Initially the club constructed a driving range and a 03-hole practice course. Under the supervision of Area Headquarters, School of Infantry and Tactics (SI&T), Station Headquarters, 52 Infantry Brigade and its under command unit 2 East Bengal and 22 BIR the course was constructed. Late Brigadier General Muhammad Jahangir Hossan, psc was the first Vice President and BA-2687 Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Iqbal Enamul Kabir, psc was the first secretary of this club. The club constructed the 09-hole course under the direction of Brigadier General (later General and Ex Chief of Army Staff) SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, SBP (BAR), OSP, ndu, psc, PhD (Retired) in 2009-2010. The club was renamed as Jalalabad Golf Club on 19 May 2011. With the continuous hard work of the predecessors, the club became the hub of golfing for the golfers of Sylhet Area. A good number of officers, ladies and children enjoy golfing in this club. Presently the club is renamed as Jalalabad golf and Country Club (JLGCC).

Objectives

1. To promote the game of golf for the benefit of the members and the local community (officers of the armed forces and the military officers of Sylhet Area in particular), civil society and reputed citizens of Bangladesh.

2. To promote, foster and maintain high standard of golf in Bangladesh within the confines of the Golf Federation of Bangladesh.

3. To promote and abide by the rules of golf as they are fixed from time to time by the Golf Federation of Bangladesh.

4. To provide access to golf for players of all standards in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that does not discriminate on the grounds of gender, age, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or disability.

5. Provide coaching in golf to the beginners and for improvement of experienced players.

6. To promote and arrange golf tournaments/championships at JLGCC and create opportunities for participation of club members in golf championships arranged by other clubs.
7. To lease and/or acquire, prepare, adopt and improve any land and/or equipment suitable for the purposes and functions of the club or to facilitate other sports, entertainment, amusements or recreation.

8. To promote fellowship and goodwill between members of armed forces, civil officials and distinguished members of civil community through golf.

9. To select and sponsor individual or team of golfers to represent JLGCC in various competitions.

10. Generally, to do all such other things that are incidental or conducive to the attainment of above-mentioned objectives.
